Clarksburg, “The Jewel of the Hills”

Founded in 1785

Clarksburg, Virginia (later becoming West Virginia in 1863), was founded in 1785 by Daniel Davisson. It is named for General George Rogers Clark, a famous Virginian who conducted many expeditions against the British and Indians during the Indian Wars and the the American Revolution.
